Resources
The school has provided the department with three good size classrooms. The textbooks are excellent and cover most aspects of the Curriculum. Other resources are also available for use, such as an OHP, Projectors, TV/video, software and the Internet.
Curriculum
It is compulsory for all pupils to take a GCSE (the examination board used is Edexcel) by the time they leave the school. At key stage 3 each pupil has two periods a week in which they cover all the basic teachings of Islam, such as, the five pillars, the beliefs and other social issues dealing with everyday life. At Key Stage 4, students cover similar topics but in greater depth. They also have the opportunity to conduct their own research for projects and coursework (20%), which counts towards their GCSE.
In Quranic Studies, pupils learn to memorise the important verses and surahs of the Quran. They learn the Tajwid, Tafsir and the recitation of the Quran in the correct manner.
In the school, we have all the facilities required for Islamic learning and practice. Our library has excellent books on Islam so that they can enhance their knowledge of Islam and they can then practice it in the school. The laptops in the library are also equipped with Quran software to help the pupils.
Activities
- The department organises a Quran Competition every year and excellent prizes are awarded to the finalists and winners.
- Other activities are organised throughout the year, particularly on the special Islamic days.
- Every year, the department is improving and expanding its resources and activities. We are taking pupils to visit religious sites in the UK and abroad e.g. Spain , France , Belgium and the Middle East to perform Umrah.
This department's mission and aims are:
- To inculcate in our pupils sound knowledge and strong faith based on the Tawhid (free from all types of shirk) and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) in order to seek the pleasure of Allah by working in this life so that we are successful in the hereafter.
- To prepare our pupils to become believing and practising Muslims and to be able to differentiate between real Islam and national traditions and customs.
- To make our pupils practical models of Islam so that they feel proud to be Muslims and become Da'ee (preachers) of Islam in their own families, friends and the society at large.
- To develop a sense of belonging to the Muslim Ummah and to promote feelings of Muslim brotherhood and sisterhood.
- To prepare and equip pupils to become good Muslim citizens of Britain .
