Resources
The department has two modern, fully equipped laboratories. Most Science lessons are taught in these rooms where students are taught practical skills using both traditional Science methods and by using Information Technology. Visits by outside speakers and frequent trips are also organised to teach pupils about the practical applications of Science.
Curriculum
KD excels in its Science education. One of the factors contributing to this is the highly qualified, experienced, innovative and committed specialist subject teachers. In year 7 and 8, each pupil has three Science lessons a week which cover all the main areas of scientific knowledge. Pupils are set according to their scientific ability and this structure allows us to teach our pupils in groups of not more than 13. This excellent pupil/teacher ratio allows teachers to meet the needs of all our pupils and to raise their level of achievements. In years 9, 10 and 11 pupils have separate Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons, for a total of 6 lessons per week. The setting arrangements and group sizes are the same as in the lower school. All three subjects are compulsory at G.C.S.E. level; the Department follows the AQA syllabuses. |
