History

Year 7

Year 7 study medieval monarchy and the challenges faced by them in the middle ages. Pupils learn about the medieval church system and how it was part of their everyday lives. Pupils will also go on to study the effect this had on the non-Christian communities in Britain .

Year 8

Pupils in Year 8 will focus on the political unification of Britain , and the changing relationships between crown, parliament, church and the people. This study will make pupils aware of the Tudors and Henry VIII including his break up with the Catholic Church. Pupils will go on to study problems between the Tudors and the Monarchs followed by Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.

Year 9

In their final year of study at Key Stage 3, pupils study the industrial revolution and how transport links were improved. Finally pupils will study how Britain expanded in trade and through the British Empire .

GCSE Pupils studying History for GCSE follow the AQA Specification B exam criteria, which covers international history from 1900 to 1949, Russia 1914 to 1953, Germany 1918-1939 and the origins of the Cold War.

There is no coursework for this subject but pupils will sit a third exam to compensate this. This exam focuses on Britain and Ireland since 1916 and Vietnam since 1939.
