The Art and Design Department follows National Curriculum guidelines at Key Stage 3 whilst working within the Islamic ethos of the school. GCSE Art and Design is offered to year 10 and 11 pupils.
Resources
Good quality resources are offered to pupils at all levels of the curriculum in order that they may improve their artistic skills. Classroom displays and books are available to stimulate learning and encourage enquiry.
Curriculum
At Key Stage 3 pupils work in sketchbooks to develop skills and ideas for finished work which is then developed on paper. These sketchbooks are also used for homework tasks. A wide range of design, drawing, and painting skills are developed. In the latter part of Key Stage 3, issues regarding the role of the artist as well as the various artistic and architectural styles of different cultures are also studied.
At Key Stage 4, the optional GCSE Art and Design course covers 2-4 units of assessed coursework including aspects of cultural and themed work and observational drawing. Within this framework pupils are given starting points and required to look at, compare and evaluate examples from a variety of themes and cultures. This enables pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required for the GCSE coursework tasks and the controlled test. |
